Where the word “senior” appears in the Draft Comprehensive Plan:
Summary Results of Survey
-
Senior citizens were the least likely group
to feel that housing is affordable.
- Sixty-four percent of
senior citizens felt that additional senior citizen housing is needed.
Those younger and those living in Valatie less than five years felt that
this type of housing was not needed, or they had no opinion.
- Forty-six percent of
all respondents and 52% of senior citizens felt that additional sidewalks
are needed.
Limitations of Current Land Use Regulations and Recommendations
-
Limitation: The zoning law should be
clarified to include this district’s goals, purposes and location.
-
Recommendation: There is neither
explanation nor a map depicting the location of the “Residence Senior
Citizen District”. (Since 1991, our Village Code has allowed the
creation of a Residence Senior Citizen District in any zoning district.)
Open Space, Scenic and Environmental Features
-
Fifty-seven percent of all those surveyed,
and 70% of senior citizens felt that there has been a loss of open space in
Valatie and indicated that it is very important to preserve the remaining
open areas and agricultural lands.
-
Recommendations: Density bonuses
should also be given for provision of other amenities such as affordable
housing, senior citizen housing, recreational lands, etc.
Parks and Recreation
- Many cited the need
for a community center for youth, adults, and seniors.

need for both affordable housing and additional senior housing in Valatie.
