The Ichabod Crane

Central School District

The Ichabod Crane Central School District serves seven towns in northern Columbia and southern Rensselaer counties: Chatham, Ghent, Nassau, Kinderhook, Stuyvesant, Schodack, and Stockport.

We have a growing enrollment of 2,500 with approximately 200 students in each grade.  Students are housed in five buildings in Kinderhook and Valatie:

·        The Primary School (built 1966) for grades K-2

·        Martin Van Buren (built 1929) for four sections of grade 3, three sections of grade 4, two sections of combined grades 3/4 and four sections of grade 5

·        Martin H Glynn (built 1928) for three sections of grade 3, three sections of grade 4, two sections of combined grades 3/4 and four sections of grade 5

·        The Middle School (built 1973) for four sections of grade 5 and grades 6-8

·        The High School (built 1956) for grades 9-12

The Board of Education and Central Office Administration are committed to collaborative decision making and the best strategic planning process to offer the best education for district students.

Parent involvement is an important part of our program and vital for student success.  From athletics, to music, to gifted/talented programs, to special education, to the PTA, parents support our students in many ways.  For more information on how you can make a difference in your child’s education, please speak with the teacher or school principal.
